貴方は期待をして 負担をかける
巨大な揺れに
貴方は期待をして 誤解をする
Anata wa kitai wo shite, futan wo kakeru
Kyodai na yure ni
Anata wa kitai wo shite, gokai wo suru
You expect something, and so you are burdened
With enormous tremors, (1)
You expect something, and so you misunderstand
私も期待をして それを待つ
愚かな揺れに
私も期待をしては また駄目になる
Atashi mo kitai wo shite, sore wo matsu
Oroka na yure ni
Atashi mo kitai wo shite wa, mata dame ni naru
I also expect something, and so I wait for it
With foolish tremors,
I also expect something, and it becomes meaningless again (2)
その必要の無い街で 2人は何をうろたえたのだろう?
そんな必要も無いこの街で
Sono hitsuyou no nai machi de, futari wa nani wo urotaeta no darou?
Sonna hitsuyou mo nai kono machi de
In this town with no need for such things, I wonder what flustered the two of us?
In this town with no such needs...
例えば漂う方がレールは破壊せずに済むと
例えば従う方が指先は触れたままだと
誘惑して
拒絶して
到り着けば繰り返して
Tatoeba tadayou hou ga reeru wa hakai sezu ni sumu to
Tatoeba shitagau hou ga yubisaki wa fureta mama da to
Yuuwaku shite
Kyozetsu shite
Tatoritsukeba kurikaeshite
Even if we float, the rails will end without being destroyed
Even if we obey, our fingertips touched like this
You tempt me
You refuse me
And if you reach the end, you do it all over again
今度は何を望むのだろう Kondo wa nani wo nozomu no darou
I wonder what your wish is this time
貴方は目を伏せて 言葉を探る
小さな槍で
私も目を伏せては 距離を躍らす
Anata wa me wo fusete, kotoba wo saguru
Chiisa na yari de
Atashi mo me wo fusete wa, kyori wo odorasu
Your eyes are cast downward, and you search for words
With a little spear
My eyes are cast downward too, and make the distances dance away (3)
その必要の無い街で 2人は何を擦り抜けたのだろう?
そんな必要も無いこの街で
Sono hitsuyou no nai machi de, futari wa nani wo surinuketa no darou?
Sonna hitsyou mo nai kono machi de
In this town with no need for such things, I wonder what the two of us slipped past?
In this town with no such needs...
例えば漂う方がロープは放されずに済むと
例えば従う方がこの脚は絡まるだけだと
誘惑して
拒絶して
到り着けば繰り返して
Tatoeba tadayou hou ga roopu wa hanasarezu ni sumu to
Tatoeba shitagau hou ga kono ashi wa kanamaru dake da to
Yuuwaku shite
Kyozetsu shite
Tatoritsukeba kurikaeshite
Even if we float, the rope will end without being released
Even if we obey, these legs are only intertwined
You tempt me
You refuse me
And if you reach the end, you do it all over again
今度は何を望むのだろう Kondo wa nani wo nozomu no darou
I wonder what your wish is this time
Translator's Notes:
(1) I think that with the word 'tremors,' Onitsuka-san is making a metaphor for indecision... not necessarily fear or terror.
(2) The 'it' in this sentence is referring to the speaker's expectations, not necessarily the thing they're expecting.
(3) I'm not entirely sure what 'odorasu' means here. It's a conjugation of the verb 'odoru,' to dance, but I don't know exactly what this conjugation is. I'm translating it as the causative conjugation just because I think it makes the most sense. It's probably some informal conjugation I'm not familiar with.
